Travel During Monsoon to Become Easier as CM Dhami Inaugurates Dhangarhi Bridge

Ramnagar/Nainital: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday inaugurated the long-awaited Dhangarhi Bridge built over the Dhangarhi stream on National Highway-309. The bridge is expected to provide major relief from the recurring disruption of traffic on this vital route connecting Kumaon and Garhwal during the monsoon season.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta, Salt MLA Mahesh Jeena, along with several public representatives and officials, attended the inauguration. The Chief Minister arrived by helicopter at Dhikuli before travelling by road to the bridge site for the ceremony.

Every year during the rainy season, the Dhangarhi stream swells, forcing the closure of National Highway-309 for several hours. This regularly disrupted connectivity between Kumaon and Garhwal, leaving thousands of commuters, tourists, and local residents stranded on either side.

The situation posed serious challenges for critically ill patients, pregnant women, and emergency services. In several instances, patients failed to reach hospitals in time, while fast-flowing water led to vehicles getting trapped and accidents. Over the years, several people have also lost their lives at the site, making it one of the most vulnerable locations during the monsoon.

With the completion of the Dhangarhi Bridge, safe and uninterrupted traffic movement is now expected throughout the year. The bridge will benefit thousands of residents in Ramnagar, Ranikhet, Almora, Salt, and the Garhwal region, while also boosting tourism. It will play a crucial role in maintaining road connectivity during the rainy season and ensuring smoother operation of emergency services.
