Action on Intelligence Failure in Ankita Case; Pauri LIU Inspector Suspended

Dehradun: Amid ongoing controversy surrounding the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the police department has taken action over alleged negligence by the intelligence apparatus. The Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) Inspector of Pauri Garhwal has been suspended for failing to timely inform authorities about Ankita’s parents traveling to Delhi to stage a protest. Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Abhinav Kumar confirmed the suspension.

Ankita Bhandari’s parents had recently traveled to Delhi and registered a protest outside India Gate regarding a controversy involving an alleged VIP. The intelligence apparatus failed to receive prior information about this development, which was viewed as an intelligence lapse. Consequently, action was taken against the Pauri LIU Inspector.

Political Pressure Mounts Following Delhi Protest

After Ankita’s parents sat on a dharna in Delhi, the matter once again drew national attention. Several political leaders, activists, and social workers—including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi, Congress leaders Pawan Khera, and Alka Lamba—participated in the demonstration to support them.

Following this development, protests demanding justice for Ankita have intensified in Uttarakhand as well. The Congress party has been taking out candlelight marches in multiple locations. A political controversy is also ongoing in the state regarding the appointment of the individual linked to the alleged VIP as a Governor.

Chief Minister and Intelligence Officials Rush to Delhi

Following the arrival of Ankita’s parents in Delhi, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also traveled to Delhi. Upon receiving information about the matter, intelligence department officials likewise rushed to the capital. Departmental displeasure emerged over the failure to communicate information on time regarding this entire sequence of events.

The suspension of the Pauri Garhwal LIU Inspector is being seen as disciplinary action in this matter. However, according to available information, the primary reason cited for the action was the failure to provide timely information about Ankita’s parents reaching Delhi and staging their protest.
