Chief Secretary Inspects Lakhwar Project, Directs Completion by 2031

Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Thursday conducted a site inspection of the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project and reviewed the progress of the construction work. During the inspection, he directed officials of Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) and the executing agency Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to complete the project by 2031. He also laid special emphasis on increasing the number of machines and manpower to expedite the work.

The Chief Secretary said that the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project is a project of national importance that will benefit Uttarakhand as well as several other states. He instructed officials to prepare and submit a detailed action plan within the next two to three days. Notably, the project was earlier scheduled for completion by December 2034.

He directed officials to prepare a PERT chart for regular monitoring of construction work and ensure its 100 percent implementation. He also instructed that there should be no compromise on the quality of the project and that all necessary technical tests be completed on time.

The Chief Secretary instructed officials of UJVNL and L&T to remain present at the project site and conduct daily, fortnightly, and monthly reviews. He also directed that all technical tests required by the Central Water Commission be completed at the earliest. He further instructed officials to complete the compensation distribution for the acquired land promptly and maintain continuous dialogue with the affected families to ensure timely resolution of their grievances.

During the inspection, Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, UJVNL Managing Director A.K. Singh, L&T General Manager Prabhu Kumar, Project Manager Vishnu Mohan Srivastava, and other senior officials were present.
