Tehri Garhwal: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday virtually inaugurated the 25th All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship organized at the Water Sports and Adventure Institute located in Tehri Garhwal. On this occasion, the Chief Minister welcomed players, officers and sports lovers of police forces from different states and union territories of the country to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of great pride for Uttarakhand that the state has got the opportunity to host this important national event for the first time. He expressed gratitude to the All India Police Sports Control Board and said that such events provide a platform to players to showcase their talent and also play an important role in giving a new identity to the state in the field of adventure sports and tourism.
He informed that more than 440 male and female players from 19 teams across the country are participating in this competition, who will showcase their talent in various events of canoeing, rowing and kayaking.
Chief Minister Dhami extended his best wishes to the players and said that personnel of police and paramilitary forces play an important role in maintaining the security of the country, law and order and public trust. In such a situation, it is very important for them to remain physically and mentally fit. Sports not only increase fitness, but also develop discipline, team spirit and the ability to work in difficult situations.
He said that sports like water sports are also very useful in disaster management, flood relief, river rescue and coastal security works. Expertise in these sports often proves life-saving and helps in saving lives in emergency situations.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, campaigns like Khelo India and Fit India Movement have strengthened sports culture in the country and created new enthusiasm among the youth towards sports. The state government is also continuously making efforts to provide better facilities to players and promote sports.
He said that Uttarakhand has recently proved its capability by successfully organizing the 38th National Games and now the state is rapidly emerging as a land of sports along with Devbhoomi. Modern sports infrastructure is being rapidly developed in the state and work is also being done towards organizing international-level competitions in the future.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that such events will play an important role in the development of the state, promotion of tourism and bringing forward sports talents.
On this occasion, MLA Kishore Upadhyay, District Panchayat President Tehri Ishita Sajwan, Municipal Chairman Tehri Garhwal Mohan Singh Rawat, Special Principal Secretary Sports Amit Sinha, ADG ITBP Sanjay Gunjyal, IG Northern Frontier ITBP Manu Maharaj, IG CRPF Dinesh Uniyal, IG ITBP Academy Girish Chandra Upadhyay, District Magistrate Tehri Nitika Khandelwal and SSP Shweta Chaubey along with other officials were present.
