CM Dhami Inaugurates Four-Day Tehri Lake Festival, Says Tehri Will Become a Global Tourism and Adventure Sports Hub

Tehri: The grand Tehri Lake Festival began at Tehri Lake, located in the lap of the Himalayas. While inaugurating the festival on Friday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that in the coming years Tehri Lake will emerge as a major center for tourism and adventure sports not only in India but also at the global level.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister also announced the construction of a ropeway from Koti Colony to New Tehri. He also virtually laid the foundation stone for the Koti–Dobra tourism route.

Festival to Continue Until March 9

The festival, which will continue until March 9, will showcase tourism, adventure sports, environmental conservation, and local culture. Athletes and tourists from across India and abroad are participating in various activities during the event.

Boost to Tourism and Sports

The Chief Minister said that Tehri Lake is rapidly gaining recognition not only for its natural beauty but also as a hub for adventure sports. Activities such as kayaking, canoeing, jet-skiing, parasailing, and scuba diving are being promoted in the region.

He added that modern training facilities are being developed for these activities so that young people from the state can showcase their talent in national and international competitions.

Employment Opportunities for Youth

Dhami stated that the expansion of tourism and sports activities around Tehri Lake is creating new employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth. At present, more than 400 young people are receiving training in paragliding in the area.

Rapid Development in Tehri

The Chief Minister also said that development projects worth around ₹1,300 crore are currently underway for the overall development of the Tehri region. These include the development of Tehri Lake, construction of a ring road, and plans to develop Timad Village as a tourism village.

Additionally, Sunargaon in Bhilangna Development Block is being developed as a model village, and a new Anganwadi building in traditional hill architecture is also being constructed.

The Chief Minister said that the state government aims to make Tehri a destination where tourism, sports, culture, and nature come together in a unique way.
