Dehradun: The path to government jobs has become easier for sportspersons in Uttarakhand who have brought laurels to the state by winning medals at national and international levels. At a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, a proposal for 243 posts across various departments was approved to provide direct employment to outstanding sportspersons.
Under the Sports Policy-2021, outstanding sportspersons will be appointed to these posts in both gazetted and non-gazetted categories. The posts include positions in various departments, including Sports, Youth Welfare, Home, Transport, Education and Forest.
In the Secondary Education Department, 33 posts have been earmarked from the 1,898 sanctioned Level-7 posts of Assistant Teacher (Physical Education) to provide direct employment to gold medal-winning sportspersons. Approval has also been granted for the creation of 33 new Level-6 posts of Upper Assistant Teacher (Physical Education) in their place.
According to Special Secretary, Sports, Amit Sinha, the government’s objective is to ensure that sportspersons receive the benefits of their sporting achievements in a timely manner. The 243 posts have been determined in accordance with the rationalisation of departmental posts and the rules of the Public Service Commission and Service Selection Board.
Chief Minister’s Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari said that the government is committed to the welfare of sports and sportspersons. A sports university is being constructed at Gaulapar in Haldwani to strengthen the sports culture in the state. At the same time, the “One Block, One Mini Stadium” scheme is also being taken forward in rural areas.
The Cabinet’s decision has generated enthusiasm among sportspersons and the wider sporting community. The government hopes that the provision of direct employment will encourage young people to take up sports and help secure the future of athletes who perform well at national and international levels.
