Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has quashed an order permitting a potency test on suspended trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy, who is accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a fellow woman trainee IPS officer.
Justice J. Srinivas Rao set aside the order passed on August 17 by the III Additional Junior Civil Judge-cum-XXV Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class, Rajendranagar, in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district.
High Court Sets Aside Magistrate’s Order
Uday Krishna Reddy had challenged the magistrate’s order before the Telangana High Court through a criminal petition.
The prosecution had sought permission to conduct a potency examination on the officer under Section 52 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Reddy opposed the application, contending that the proposed examination was not legally sustainable.
After hearing the matter and considering the legal principles laid down by the Madras and Karnataka High Courts in similar cases, the Telangana High Court held that the prosecution’s application did not comply with the principles applicable to such an examination.
The court, therefore, set aside the magistrate’s order permitting the potency test.
What Did the Telangana High Court Rule?

- The court clarified that its decision would not prevent the prosecution from filing an appropriate application in accordance with law, if necessary.
- Reddy’s separate petition seeking quashing of the FIR is still pending before the Telangana High Court.
Trainee IPS Officer Remains in Judicial Custody
- Uday Krishna Reddy is currently under suspension and in judicial custody in connection with the case.
The latest High Court order is limited to the legality of the magistrate’s permission for the proposed potency examination. It does not constitute a finding on the allegations of sexual assault against Reddy.
The allegations remain subject to proceedings before the competent court.
