Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has directed officials to ensure effective prosecution so that offenders are punished at the earliest, while expediting the disposal of prosecution-related cases. During a meeting held through video conferencing with district magistrates at the Secretariat on Tuesday, he reviewed the progress of prosecution-related cases in various districts.
The Chief Secretary said that the objective of the prosecution process is to ensure that offenders are punished in accordance with the law. For this, effective prosecution, along with better coordination among the concerned departments, is essential. Expressing displeasure over meetings of the standing committee related to prosecution not being held on schedule, he directed that such meetings be conducted regularly according to a fixed timetable.
He also reviewed cases involving heinous crimes in all districts. Officials were directed to ensure swift action and effective prosecution in such cases while maintaining sensitivity. The Chief Secretary said that ensuring timely justice for victims is the responsibility of the government and that there should be no unnecessary delay at any level.
The Chief Secretary also directed officials to resolve, on priority, practical and coordination-related issues arising during the prosecution process. He emphasised regular review of pending cases, fixing responsibility at every level and ensuring time-bound action.
Seva Sankalp Campaign to Be Held from September 15 to October 18
During the meeting, Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari informed the district magistrates about activities to be organised under the Seva Sankalp campaign from September 15 to October 18. He said that various programmes and public participation-based activities would be organised as part of the campaign.
Under the Bharat 2047 programme, schools will organise essay-writing, painting and speech competitions on the themes of Viksit Bharat and Bharat 2047 from September 17 to October 8. Exhibitions will also be organised at the district level. Selected paintings will be featured in and showcased through short films.
In addition, exhibitions under the theme “Seva aur Sapna” will be organised in schools, along with hackathons and innovation challenges from October 1 to 7 and public welfare dialogues. On October 7, on the occasion of Seva Jyoti Yatra Day, relay marathons, sports competitions, cycling events and bike rallies will be organised, with both professional athletes and members of the general public participating.
Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, L. Phanai, Special Principal Secretary Amit Sinha, Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, along with other senior government officials, commissioners of the Kumaon and Garhwal divisions, and district magistrates from all districts were present at the meeting.
