Five proposals approved in Dhami cabinet meeting – know the major decisions at a glance

Dehradun: A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was held, where several important issues were discussed. Five major proposals were approved in the meeting. It is being said that another cabinet meeting may take place before the budget session of the Assembly, in which other important proposals may be decided.

Major decisions of the cabinet meeting

Approval of Minority Commission Amendment Bill
The cabinet has approved the enactment of the Uttarakhand Minority Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026. Under Article 29 of the Constitution of India, provisions exist for the protection of the interests of minority communities. The Minority Commission was established in 2002 to protect the constitutional rights and promote the socio-economic development of Muslim, Jain, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi, and Sikh communities in the state.

Amendment related to reservation for ex-servicemen
The cabinet has approved a proposal to amend the 1993 Act to provide reservation benefits to ex-servicemen in state services. Under this, the provisions of the government order issued by the Personnel Department on May 22, 2020, will be given the status of an Act.

Approval of Language Institute Amendment Bill
The meeting also approved the Uttarakhand Language Institute (Amendment) Bill 2026, which is expected to promote linguistic research and development in the state.

Green signal for establishment of three new private universities
The cabinet has also approved the Uttarakhand Private University (Amendment) Bill 2026. This clears the way for the establishment of private universities named Mount Valley University (Nainital), Tula’s University (Dehradun), and Shivalik University (Dehradun).

Approval of Public Gambling Prevention Bill
The cabinet has also approved the proposal to enact the Uttarakhand Public Gambling Prevention Bill 2026. On the instructions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the British-era Public Gambling Act of 1867 is being repealed and replaced with a new law. Under this, strict provisions will be introduced to prevent public gambling, running gambling houses, and betting on games in the state.
