Dehradun: Preparations have begun across Uttarakhand to celebrate the 80th Independence Day with grandeur and active public participation. During a meeting held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, all departments were instructed to organize a variety of events to mark the occasion.
The Chief Secretary emphasized that Independence Day should not remain a merely ceremonial event but should involve widespread public participation. To achieve this, sports competitions, blood donation camps, marathons, cycling and bike rallies, high-altitude adventure activities, tree plantation drives, and water conservation campaigns will be organized at both the state and district levels. Musical performances by Police, Army, Paramilitary Forces, and NCC bands will also be held in major cities.
Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari said that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will hoist the national flag at 10:00 a.m. on August 15 at the Parade Ground in Dehradun. The Chief Secretary will hoist the flag at the Secretariat at 9:00 a.m., while District Magistrates across the state will conduct flag-hoisting ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. All government and private offices in Dehradun will also hoist the national flag at 9:00 a.m.
He further informed that patriotic songs will be played at major intersections across the state on the evening of August 14 and the morning of August 15. A poetry symposium and mushaira will be organized at the state headquarters on August 14, while government buildings and historical monuments will be illuminated with LED lighting.
Educational institutions across the state will organize Prabhat Pheris (morning processions), flag-hoisting ceremonies, the National Anthem, sports competitions, debates, essay-writing contests, exhibitions, and cultural programs. The government’s objective is to celebrate Independence Day not only as a festival but also as an occasion to promote national awareness and patriotism.
