Dehradun: The efforts of the Dhami government to promote green energy in Uttarakhand are now showing visible results on the ground. A 70-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant installed at the headquarters of the Information and Public Relations Department in Dehradun has drastically reduced the department’s electricity expenses. In April 2026, the department’s electricity bill came down to just ₹1,700, compared to the earlier monthly bill of around ₹1.20 lakh.
The solar plant has been installed by the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) at the department headquarters located on Ring Road. The electricity generated by the plant has been connected to the UPCL network, ensuring clean and uninterrupted power supply to the department.
Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari stated that under the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state is actively promoting solar energy production and maximizing its use in government departments. He said that the Chief Minister Solar Self-Employment Scheme and the Prime Minister Solar Self-Employment Scheme are proving significant in achieving energy self-reliance in the state.
He further informed that solar energy production in Uttarakhand has crossed the 1000 MW mark over the last four years. The 70 kW solar plant installed in the Information Department is another effective step in this direction.
Additionally, a 100 kW solar plant has also been installed by MDDA in the ISBT campus. Work on solar energy projects is progressing rapidly in other government offices as well. Pumps and street lights in City Forest Park are now also being operated through solar energy.
