New Delhi/Dehradun: Just 16 days after the demise of internationally acclaimed shooter and Dronacharya Award-winning coach Jaspal Rana, his mother, Shyama Devi Rana, also passed away on Sunday evening. She was 78 years old and had been suffering from prolonged illness. She was undergoing treatment at the Research and Referral Army Hospital in Delhi.
According to reports, Shyama Devi’s health deteriorated continuously after Jaspal Rana’s death on June 12. She was admitted to the hospital on June 16, where she breathed her last on Sunday. Jaspal Rana’s Terahvi (13th-day funeral ritual) had only recently been completed. The deaths of both mother and son within just 16 days have plunged the Rana family into deep mourning.
The Rana family, originally from Nainbagh village in Tehri Garhwal district, is well known in the sports fraternity. Jaspal Rana’s father, Narayan Singh Rana, is a Dronacharya Award-winning coach and former Sports Minister of Uttarakhand. His sister, Sushma Rana, is married to BJP MLA Pankaj Singh.
Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Haridwar MP Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed deep grief over Shyama Devi Rana’s demise and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed profound sorrow, praying that God grant the departed soul a place at His holy feet and give the grieving family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
