Dehradun: The capital city Dehradun witnessed a strong display of women’s resolve and political messaging on Tuesday evening when a Nari Shakti Mashaal Yatra (torch march) was carried out from Gandhi Park to Ghanta Ghar under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. With participation from thousands of women, the march sent a strong message regarding women’s reservation and rights.
Women—mothers, sisters, and daughters—participated in large numbers, holding burning torches and raising slogans in support of women’s dignity. The march, stretching over half a kilometer, turned into a show of strength, drawing large crowds along the route.
CM Dhami said that the march was not just a protest but a public awareness campaign against mindsets that try to keep women away from decision-making processes. He stated that women have always been the driving force of change in Indian society and are now more aware and vocal about their rights.
Targeting the opposition, he said that important issues like women’s reservation were delayed for a long time due to political reasons. He added that women now understand who is genuinely working for their rights. Slogans like “Dhakad Dhami Zindabad” and “Congress Murdabad” were also raised during the march.
Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya said that today’s Indian woman is educated, aware, and decisive, and is actively participating in political and social discourse. She emphasized that respect for women must be reflected through policies and systems, not just speeches.
Several public representatives, including Mahendra Bhatt, Savita Kapoor, and Asha Nautiyal, were present. The march is being seen as a significant signal of rising women’s political influence.
