Pithoragarh: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the upgraded cricket ground at Shri Surendra Singh Valdiya Stadium during his visit to Pithoragarh and dedicated it to the people of the district. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also entered the field and participated in sports activities to encourage young players.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami formally inaugurated the ground by batting for one over of six balls on the cricket pitch. During the event, he interacted with players and boosted their morale. The Chief Minister also participated in football, hockey, and other sports activities.
The Chief Minister said that sports are not only a means of physical fitness but also play an important role in developing discipline, self-confidence, and team spirit. He urged youth to embrace sports and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also administered an anti-drug pledge to the youth. He said that the state government is strongly advancing the campaign for a drug-free Uttarakhand and that sports are the most effective medium to guide youth in a positive direction.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also honored nine outstanding players. He said that through the new sports policy, the state government is providing every possible assistance to athletes so that the youth of the state can perform better at national and international levels.
He stated that events such as Khel Mahakumbh are providing a platform to talented individuals from rural and remote areas. The state government is continuously working to strengthen sports infrastructure and develop modern facilities across the state.
The Chief Minister also announced that floodlights would soon be installed at the cricket ground of Shri Surendra Singh Valdiya Stadium.
Public representatives, administrative officials, sports enthusiasts, and a large number of players were present at the event.
