Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called upon social media content creators to take Uttarakhand’s rich culture, folk traditions, local products, and unexplored tourist destinations to the nation and the world. He said that the wide reach of digital media and the creativity of youth can play an important role in strengthening Uttarakhand’s identity globally.
The Chief Minister was interacting with leading social media content creators, YouTubers, artists, and media personalities at the ‘Shining Stars of Uttarakhand-2026’ program organized at Mukhya Sevak Sadan at the Chief Minister’s Residence on Saturday. During the event, he answered questions from the youth and listened to their experiences and suggestions.
The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand’s identity is not limited only to famous tourist spots like Mussoorie, Nainital, Rishikesh, and Haridwar. Immense tourism potential also exists in Milam and Pindari Glaciers, Chakrata, Mana, Malari, Hanol, and other regions. Content creators can attract tourists by effectively presenting the uniqueness of these places. This will generate employment for local youth and strengthen the rural economy.
He emphasized that social media should not be used solely for achieving popularity, but also in the interest of society and the state. Fact verification is essential while creating content. Presenting reliable and positive content while avoiding misleading information forms the basis of long-term success.
Social Media Plays Crucial Role in Providing Market Access to Local Products
The Chief Minister noted that women in the state are moving toward self-reliance by producing local items through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Social media can serve as a powerful medium to provide a broader market for these products. He urged content creators to feature Pahari cuisine, handicrafts, traditional items, and products made by women’s groups in their content.
He shared that efforts are underway to take Uttarakhand’s local products to national and international markets through the ‘House of Himalayas’ brand. The ‘One District, Two Products’ initiative is also playing a significant role in giving identity to local items. Providing digital platforms to local artisans and rural women will help increase their income and preserve traditional skills.
State Interest and Future Generations’ Welfare Priority in Major Decisions
In response to questions regarding decisions on anti-copying laws, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and the Madrasa Board during the interaction, the Chief Minister said that the government’s responsibility is toward the entire state and its people. While considering any major decision, it is essential to assess how it benefits the state and its impact on future generations over the next 25 to 50 years.
The Chief Minister stated that extensive public suggestions were taken during the process of drafting the Uniform Civil Code. He shared that the draft was prepared after compiling views from nearly three lakh individuals. According to him, strengthening women’s rights and equality is among the primary objectives of this initiative.
Referring to the anti-copying law, he noted that paper leaks and examination irregularities severely affected the trust of hardworking youth. The government enacted strict legislation to safeguard the future of youth and ensure transparency in recruitment processes. He stressed that youth must have confidence that their hard work and merit will be respected.
Emphasis on Promoting Reverse Migration and Self-Employment
The Chief Minister stated that opportunities for employment and self-employment in rural areas are growing through tourism, homestays, local products, and self-help groups. Highlighting efforts related to reverse migration, he shared a figure of approximately 44 percent.
He noted that expanding facilities at tourist destinations could create job opportunities for local youth as guides, taxi operators, restaurant owners, homestay hosts, and other service providers. Encouraging winter tourism and new tourism products will help sustain tourism-based livelihoods over longer periods.
Possibilities of Developing Uttarakhand as a Wedding Destination
The Chief Minister highlighted the immense potential for wedding tourism in Uttarakhand’s natural and spiritual environment. Along with Triyuginarayan, areas like Mussoorie, Dehradun, Rishikesh, Ramnagar, and Mukteshwar can be developed for wedding events. Discussing the possibilities of film shooting and a film city, the Chief Minister said that the state’s mountain landscapes, rivers, forests, and traditional villages offer a favorable environment for filmmaking. Increased activity in this sector can generate employment for local artists, technicians, youth, and service providers.
Discussion on Improving Connectivity and Expanding Tourism Facilities
