Dehradun: Security measures across Public Works Department (PWD) offices in Uttarakhand are being revamped under new directives. Following instructions from the state government, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Home Department on February 25, 2026, are being implemented across all departmental offices to strictly regulate entry and safeguard staff.
Secretary of PWD, Pankaj Kumar Pandey, approved the adoption of these security protocols aimed at controlling external entry and preventing untoward incidents.
Key features of the new security setup include:
- Controlled Entry & ID Checks: Every office entrance will maintain a physical or electronic visitor register. No visitor will be granted entry without a valid ID. Details such as name, address, mobile number, arrival/departure times, and the officer being visited must be logged. No officer may host more than two visitors in their room at a time.
- Prohibited Items & Behavioral Standards: Possession of intoxicants, weapons, inflammable substances, or sticks inside office premises is strictly banned. Strict legal action will be taken against those creating noise, shouting slogans, or obstructing official work. Unauthorised entry after office hours is strictly prohibited.
- CCTV & Metal Detectors: Offices must install high-quality CCTV cameras capable of storing at least 90 days of video recordings. Door-frame metal detectors will also be installed at entrances.
- Panic Buttons & Nodal Officers: Panic buttons will be installed in the chambers of key officers to alert security instantly during emergencies. Each office will designate a Security Nodal Officer to oversee protocols and log security incidents.
Given the frequent visits of contractors and the general public regarding tenders and construction projects, these measures aim to balance public accessibility with employee safety.
