Dehradun. In a major push to promote filmmaking and showcase local talent, the Uttarakhand Film Development Council (UFDC) has announced the inaugural Uttarakhand Film Awards for 2024 and 2025. Applications are open from September 15 through October 16, 2026.
Highlights of the State Film Awards
- First State-Level Recognition: Organised under the Uttarakhand Film Policy 2024, the awards will honour films produced or shot in the state during 2024 and 2025.
- Inclusive Eligibility: Categories cover films in regional dialects (Garhwali, Kumaoni, Jaunsari), Hindi, and other languages listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, alongside categories for artists, technicians, and creative professionals.
- Focus on Local Ecosystem: UFDC Chief Executive Officer Banshidhar Tiwari highlighted that the initiative aims to provide local talent, folk culture, and regional stories with national and international exposure.
Film Tourism & Economic Growth
- Shooting Surge: Between FY 2019-20 and FY 2025-26, more than 1,440 film shooting permits and NOC activities were registered across Uttarakhand’s scenic locations—including Nainital, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Tehri, Chopta, Harsil, Auli, and Jim Corbett.
- Financial Incentives: Subsidies were awarded to 52 films between FY 2021-22 and FY 2025-26, with 25 films receiving grants in the 2025-26 financial year alone.
- National Recognition: Uttarakhand previously received the “Most Film Friendly State” award at the 66th National Film Awards and a “Special Mention” at the 68th National Film Awards.
The Uttarakhand Film Policy 2024 offers single-window shooting clearances, subsidies, film city development proposals, post-production support, and scholarships to turn the state into a comprehensive hub for filmmaking.
