Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Revenue Lok Adalat as part of efforts to make the justice system simpler, more accessible, and more effective.
On this occasion, he stated that providing timely justice to the general public is the top priority of the state government, and this initiative is an important step toward ensuring easy access to justice.
The Chief Minister said that the Revenue Lok Adalat has been organized to ensure quick and meaningful resolution of long-pending revenue disputes. He emphasized that such disputes are not merely paperwork, but are closely linked to farmers’ land, families’ livelihoods, and people’s dignity.
He informed that for resolving revenue disputes, multiple levels of courts are functioning in the state, including the Revenue Council at the state level, Divisional Commissioner courts at the division level, District Magistrate courts at the district level, and SDM, Tehsildar, and Naib Tehsildar courts at the tehsil level. Currently, more than 400 revenue courts are operational in the state, with over 50,000 cases pending.
To address these issues, the government has launched the Revenue Lok Adalat with the principles of simplification, resolution, disposal, and satisfaction.
Under the concept of “Justice at Your Doorstep,” Revenue Lok Adalats are being organized simultaneously at 210 locations across all 13 districts, aiming to resolve around 6,933 cases quickly.
The Chief Minister said that under this initiative, along with land disputes, cases related to excise, food, stamp duty, SARFAESI Act, Goonda Act, Code of Criminal Procedure, Electricity Act, Senior Citizens Act, and Rent Control Act will also be resolved in a time-bound and transparent manner.
He added that the state government is continuously working to simplify and make administrative processes transparent in line with the vision of “minimum government, maximum governance.” A Revenue Court Case Management System portal has been developed, enabling citizens to file their cases online from home.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to complete mutation (transfer of land ownership) in uncontested inheritance cases within a fixed timeframe after the landowner’s death. He suggested that the process should ideally be completed by the thirteenth day (Tehravi), and a new land record (Khatauni) should be provided to the family.
He also instructed that cases related to disputed land measurement and encroachments should be resolved within one month.
The Chief Minister emphasized that transparency and fairness are the key features of Lok Adalats, where all parties are heard and justice is delivered with sensitivity.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan stated that as per the Chief Minister’s directions, revenue cases will be resolved quickly and pending cases will be cleared on a war footing, with priority given to land-related disputes.
