Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always shared a special connection with Uttarakhand. Due to religious visits, tourism events, development projects, and election programs, the Prime Minister has visited Uttarakhand more than two dozen times so far. However, there are still some districts in the state where he has never attended any official event.
Tehri is now set to witness Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit for the first time. Significantly, this proposed visit is not related to a political rally but to the inauguration of a major development project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed Tehri visit is linked to the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant project. This project is considered one of the country’s major energy initiatives and is regarded as extremely important for both Uttarakhand and India’s future energy needs.
It is believed that Prime Minister Modi may visit Tehri in late May or June to inaugurate this ambitious project.
PM Modi Has Visited Devbhoomi Many Times
Looking at Prime Minister Modi’s previous visits to Uttarakhand, most of them have been related to religious sites, election rallies, and development schemes. He has visited Kedarnath Dham several times, making Rudraprayag district one of the most frequently visited places by the Prime Minister.
He has also visited Badrinath Dham in Chamoli district, Jageshwar Dham in Almora district, and Adi Kailash in Pithoragarh district. Additionally, he has visited Mukhwa village in Uttarkashi district, where the winter worship of Goddess Ganga takes place.
Through these spiritually significant visits, the Prime Minister has consistently conveyed his connection with the hill regions.
Politically, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also attended rallies and government programs multiple times in plain districts such as Dehradun, Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar.
First-Ever Visit to Tehri
Prime Minister Modi has also addressed a major public gathering in Srinagar, Pauri district. In 2019, he visited Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve in Nainital district, where he participated in a jungle safari and highlighted wildlife conservation.
Out of Uttarakhand’s 13 districts, the Prime Minister has visited around 10 districts through various programs, but Tehri district has remained untouched by a direct visit. Therefore, there is special excitement among local residents regarding the proposed visit.
Tehri district has long been known for major dam and energy projects. The Tehri Dam is considered one of India’s most important hydropower projects.
The 1000 MW pumped storage plant associated with this project is viewed as highly significant for future energy requirements. Besides power generation, the project will also play an important role in energy conservation and grid balancing.
Visit May Include More Announcements
The Prime Minister’s proposed visit is not expected to remain limited to the inauguration of the project alone. It is believed that he may also lay the foundation stone for Tehri Medical College. Several important announcements related to regional development projects are also likely during the visit.
As a result, the visit is being considered extremely important from both developmental and political perspectives.
Special Occasion for Local Residents
For local people, this event will be especially memorable, as a major public gathering of the Prime Minister is being proposed in Tehri district for the first time. Until now, residents had only seen him on television or at events in other districts, but this time they may get the opportunity to see and hear him directly in their own district. This is why excitement regarding the proposed visit continues to grow locally.
Preparations Begin at Government Level
Preparations have already begun at the government and administrative levels. Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan held a meeting with officials at the Secretariat to review arrangements for the proposed program.
Discussions were held regarding security arrangements, event venue, traffic management, and other preparations. Officials have been directed to complete all preparations on time considering the Prime Minister’s possible visit.
Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay also shared details regarding the proposed visit. He said that earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the project on April 14 along with the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway inauguration. However, considering the importance of the project and the sentiments of Tehri residents, the Prime Minister will now personally visit Tehri to inaugurate the scheme.
He stated that the Prime Minister’s visit would prove historic for Tehri district’s development, boosting the energy sector along with tourism, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
The proposed visit is also being viewed as politically significant, as several important political and development-related issues are expected to emerge in Uttarakhand in the coming period. A program in a major hill district like Tehri is considered a strong political message for the BJP as well.
An official announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office is still awaited, but preparations at the administrative level strongly indicate that Tehri will soon witness Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first-ever visit.
