Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday honoured teachers and distributed scholarships to meritorious students at the “Gyan Ganga Award Ceremony and Scholarship Distribution Programme” organised by the Kusum Kanta Foundation and Manthan Welfare Association at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan in the Chief Minister’s Camp Office. He congratulated the honoured teachers and students and wished them a bright future.
The Chief Minister said that a teacher shapes not only the future of a student but also the future of the entire nation. Along with academic knowledge, teachers provide children with vision, confidence, values and life skills. He urged teachers to provide students with quality education while also instilling good values and inspiring them to become responsible citizens.
He said that the Gyan Ganga Award Ceremony is a commendable initiative to recognise talent and encourage children in their education. Supporting a child’s education is not merely financial assistance; it means becoming a partner in helping the child realise their dreams.
Paying tribute to the late Kusum Kanta, the Chief Minister said that her dedication to music, literature and education was inspiring. Carrying forward her values and spirit of service, the Kusum Kanta Foundation has been working for the past six years in the fields of education, women’s empowerment, skill development, digital literacy and environmental conservation. He also appreciated the work being carried out by the Manthan Welfare Association in education, healthcare, skill development and public welfare.
The Chief Minister said that significant steps have been taken through the National Education Policy to make the country’s education system modern, practical and high-quality. Uttarakhand is also among the leading states to implement the National Education Policy. Along with improving the quality of education, the state government is paying special attention to making the teacher recruitment process transparent and fair.
He urged parents to provide their children not only with facilities but also with time, good values and discipline. He said that a child’s bright future is shaped not merely by education at school but through the combined efforts of the family and the school. He encouraged students to dream big and work towards fulfilling those dreams with hard work, discipline and determination.
Former Chief Minister and former Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ remembered his late wife, Kusum Kanta, and said that she had a deep interest in education, literature, music and social service. He said that education is the foundation for shaping an individual’s personality and the future of the nation. He congratulated the students who received scholarships and urged them to use their knowledge and talent for the welfare of society and the nation.
Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, MLA Savita Kapoor, Prof. Sudharani Pandey, Kusum Kanta Foundation founder Vidushi Nishank, Aryan Dev Uniyal and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
